HATE

HATE – it’s not so great.

It is associated with feelings of anger, disgust, and a resentful disposition,
Directed toward an individual, group, behaviour, idea, or condition.

HATE seems to be all the rage,
No matter status, colour, creed, or age.

It is often a naturally occurring result,
Of adopting the belief that something’s at fault.

Even when it’s righteously justified,
HATE unmercifully eats you up inside.

So what is the point of HATE?
It is such a counterproductive state.

It really doesn’t have a redeeming characteristic,
Its goal, generally speaking, is usually quite sadistic.

HATE assumes that there is an enemy that is unalterable and intolerable.

HATE can spread fast,
And make conflict last.

Alas, HATE is addictive and easily applied,
It’s us vs. them… pick a side.

How do you let this emotion go?
With certain HATE, I honestly don’t know.

You can try a lament,
It’s therapeutic to vent.

Or be the first one in generations,
That takes action to better relations.

Perhaps you can teach acceptance,
Model forgiveness; pursue transcendence.

Then there is Luke 6:28,
As a way to subdue HATE

‘Love your enemies, do good to those who HATE you,
Pray for those who abuse you, bless those that berate you.’

It’s a tall order, I confess,
But it might help you HATE a little less.

Please, let’s join together before it’s too late,
And proactively stop the spread of HATE.
