LAMENT

LAMENT – it is your chance to vent.

It is the passionate expression of sorrow and grief,
When you’re in a state of disbelief and feel no relief.

LAMENT is a tool for dealing with pain,
It is a complaint-filled wail, prayer, or refrain.

It provides an opportunity to be open and real,
To expel emotion and express how you feel.

LAMENT makes up one-third of The Psalms,
And Lamentations is a whole book filled with qualms.

These are a reminder that it’s okay to let it all out,
And there is strategic art to a sorrowful shout.

For a LAMENT is not just wild weeping,
It has a pattern that’s well worth keeping.

First, you protest – you tell God what’s wrong,
And how you’re struggling with barely getting along.

Next, you petition – you ask God to take action,
You request satisfaction from the infraction.

Last, you praise – this part is awfully tough,
Exalting God when you feel so rough.

After you may feel healed or you may feel nothing,
At the very least it’s a process that let’s you do something.

Everyone should learn to hone this skill,
If you don’t need it now… you eventually will.

After all, we cry the minute we’re born,
And life gives us many reasons to mourn.

So if you’re sad, suffering, and spent,
Why don’t you try to LAMENT.
