THE TRUTH

THE TRUTH – it’s gotten lost along the way,
In the twisted tales tainted tongues always seem to say.

I turn on the TV and everyone’s lying to me,
Selling a version of THE TRUTH, how they think it should be.

Holding on to half of what is true, editing a line or two,
Then smoothing it all out stating… well, that’ll do.

Honesty has become a lost art,
I’d love to bring it back but I don’t know where to start.

Maybe when people ask ‘how are you?’, instead of saying ‘just fine’,
I’ll tell them ‘actually, I’m slowly going out of my mind’.

Perhaps that’s too much too soon,
I’d end up looking like a buffoon.

Still I’m longing to be real,
To earnestly discuss how I feel.

Sometimes THE TRUTH hurts,
But it always works.

And yet, people preface statements by saying ‘If I’m being honest’ or ‘I’m not going to lie’
I cringe when I hear this, I tell you why…

It basically declares that at times you deceive,
And truly that’s a tangled web you weave.

Honesty is the best policy,
It is a badge of honour and integrity.

When you speak the THE TRUTH, people respect it,
It’s so refreshing and no one expects it.

Indeed, telling THE TRUTH is a revolutionary act,
So wade through the fiction to state just the facts.

Let your Yes be Yes, and your No be No,
Whether you like it or not, just say so.

When you know THE TRUTH, it will set you free,
From the grip of fakeness rampant in our society.

For THE TRUTH is hiding in plain site, but so are all the lies,
So many folks can’t see this; the wool’s been pulled over their eyes.

Twain said ‘If you tell THE TRUTH you don’t have to remember anything’,
Shakespeare declared ‘No legacy is so rich as honesty’. It’s got a nice ring.

Still integrity has no monetary value or fame,
But it will build for you a credible name.

In the end, that’s all you have to show,
As your soul moves on and your mortal days go.

So conduct your self is a way that is couth,
And in everything, always, tell THE TRUTH.
