VOLUNTEER

VOLUNTEER – with a heart that’s sincere.

It is an altruistic activity,
That is the truest type of humility.

It deflects your attention away from your self,
It directs more intention in a way that will help.

When you VOLUNTEER

It creates community and decreases loneliness,
It shapes identity and increases holiness.

It can develop emotional stability,
It can envelop vocational ability.

It may allow you to learn new things,
Or someday endow you to earn two wings.

It counteracts stress and aggression,
It combats nervousness and depression.

There’s personal satisfaction one takes as severance,
For the purposeful action that makes a difference.

There are many friendly remarks amidst applause,
For any that readily embarks to assist the cause.

But certainly don’t do it for show or achieving praise and some glory,
Just quietly shovel your neighbour’s snow or tell your grieving chum a fun story.

It doesn’t have to be a major commitment,
That requires hard labour or equipment.

Simply be mindful of those in need,
Quickly be kind in word and deed.

To conclude, as you assist others, trust, and do good,
You’re viewed as sisters and brothers just as you should.

And when you find yourself saying, ‘Someone should do something about that’,
Maybe instead of wishing and praying… you should VOLUNTEER to act.

That’s how towns are built and the hungry are fed,
It allows the down-and-out to have a bed.

So when the call for help is near,
Be the first to VOLUNTEER.
