YOU
YOU – there’s no one quite like YOU,
With the exact experiences you’ve been through.
Nobody knows precisely what YOU know,
It’s matchless like the prints on each finger and toe.
You have unique eyes; the windows to your specific soul,
You have a distinct voice, which only YOU control.
And your lips and tongue are one-of-a-kind too,
Don’t believe me, look it up, they’re particular to just YOU.
Not to mention your teeth and the way that you walk,
And your personality that shows when YOU laugh and YOU talk.
Then there’s how YOU sense things and how YOU perceive,
And the things YOU create and the things YOU believe.
And your relationships are exclusively your own,
Just like your thoughts when YOU spend time alone.
Your intelligence is weighted toward a certain set of skill,
Your goals are specifically suited to the dreams you must fulfill.
Whoa, whoa, you’ve got me wrong… really,
I’m regular and a nobody; I’m nothing special to see.
But that’s not true of YOU.
You’re the winner of many a swimmer,
That got to have an egg for dinner.
YOU started as the champion of an impossible race,
YOU grew in size and stature in a purposeful place.
So please, be willing to be YOU,
And do the best that YOU can do.
And if, for some reason, you think YOU don’t matter,
Please know that YOU could be the deciding factor.
Of whether somebody chooses to live or to die,
Or pursue the meaning of the question why.
For YOU can change the world,
By teaching one boy, or mentoring one girl.
Helping to shape someone’s point of view,
By being the wonderful, beautiful, absolute YOU.
